Eminent industrialist, renowned patron of education, distinguished philanthropist, active social worker and one of the promoter and founder members of NSU was elected uncontested as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NSU Trust and the North South Foundation in its 4th and 23rd Annual General Meeting respectively both held on 19 June 2015. North South Foundation (Former NSU Foundation) established NSU. Previously, he has served the Foundation twice as its Chairman. Besides, he has also served as the Chairman of the Endowment Committee of NSU Foundation several times since its inception.
Mr. Kashem served as the Syndicate Member of Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh Open University in two consecutive terms of 3 years each. He is also the Former Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh.
Mr. Kashem is a former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). He is also the Founder Chairman and Director of Southeast Bank Ltd. He was awarded “President Export Trophy” twice for making notable contribution to the export sector and “C R Das Gold Medal” for making remarkable contribution to the industrial sector of the country. He was also embraced with the honor of Long Term and High Tax Payer-2011 by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Mr. Kashem, as an industrialist, travelled to different countries of the world several times and led a number of Trade Delegations to USA, UK, Canada, European Union Community and Far Eastern Countries.
Mr. Kashem is also associated with various social and philanthropic activities. He is a Golfer and a Senior Rotarian. He is the Founder Chairman of M Kashem Trust, which is aimed at fostering education through providing scholarships and stipends to the underprivileged students in his locality. He has also established a modern non-profit making hospital with 50 beds named “Tareque Memorial Hospital” in his home district aiming to provide all kinds of medical facilities to the people, particularly, the deprived, of the area with minimum cost.
