About

Dr. Md. Harisur Rahman is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Media, Communication, and Journalism at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the School of Media Arts, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA (2025–2026). He earned his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and holds master's degrees in Journalism, Media, and Communication from the University of Dhaka and in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University.

Dr. Rahman is the author of Consuming Cultural Hegemony: Bollywood in Bangladesh (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) and Decoding Ad Culture: Television Commercials and Broadcast Regulations in Bangladesh (Lexington Books, 2024). He is also the co-editor of the forthcoming volume Critical Media Perspectives on the 2024 Bangladesh Uprising (Bloomsbury, 2026). His research has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including Frontiers in Human Dynamics, Cogent Education, The Journal of International Communication, Asian Ethnology, and Studies in South Asian Film & Media.

His research focuses on artificial intelligence in higher education, AI governance, higher education policy, educational technology, digital media, platform capitalism, media systems and public policy, and South Asian media and cultural politics. His recent work examines institutional AI governance, responsible AI adoption, AI-integrated curriculum development, and the societal implications of generative AI in higher education. He has led and co-led several nationally and internationally funded research projects and serves on the editorial boards of international journals, including Review of Communication Research and Studies in Media and Communication. He also reviews manuscripts for several high-impact international journals across media, communication, education, and Asian studies.
