Ishrat has recently completed her PhD in plant genetics at the School of Science, Monash University, Sunway campus, Malaysia.
She completed her Honors Degree of Bachelor (BSc) and Masters in Science (MSc) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She also completed her Masters in Research (MRes) in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
Her teaching areas include Introduction to Biology, Introduction to Biochemistry & Biotechnology, Introduction to Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, metabolism I & Metabolism II, Cell Biology, Endocrinology.
My areas of research interest focus mainly on rice genetics, particularly that gene/(s) of rice influencing starch digestibility, Transcriptome sequencing analysis of commonly consumed rice varieties. Her ongoing research is on the development of markers and the in vitro rice starch digestibility test to enable the rapid development of low GI rice lines.
However she did research in Molecular Pharmacology and Parasitytology during her MRes in University of Glasgow, UK that required translocation of proteins (G-Proteins) from the cytosol to the membrane by performing SDS-PAGE and Immunoblot analysis (Western Blot) and many other techniques like tissue culture, PAGE, ELISA, HA, PCR in the relevant field.
