The journey of Media, Communication, and Journalism at NSU over the last three and a half
years reflects a quiet yet decisive institutional transformation. Launched in August 2022 as a
program with just 18 students, it has now evolved into a full-fledged independent department,
with a vibrant academic community of 306 students across eight batches. The first cohort
prepares to graduate in July 2026.
This growth has been matched by strong faculty leadership and growing academic credibility.
The Department of MCJ demonstrates diverse strengths across research, filmmaking, policy
engagement, and global academic networking. Initiatives such as the Media Leadership Talk
series have enabled leading editors, senior media executives, and communication professionals
to engage directly with students. Strategic partnerships with leading media houses such as
Prothom Alo and Channel i, and international organizations such as UNESCO, Google News
Initiative, and DW Akademie have further embedded DMCJ within both national and global
media ecosystems. MCJ students’ achievements in journalism, film acting, international
workshops, sports, and professional placements underscore the department’s strong applied and
experiential impact.
DMCJ is now well-positioned to emerge as a regional leader in media education in the years
ahead. This trajectory will be guided by clear alignment with NSU’s vision of excellence,
innovation, and societal relevance, including curriculum modernization with a focus on AI and
media, the development of industry-aligned standards, expansion of global academic
partnerships, and the institutionalization of platforms such as a bi-annual Bangladesh Media
Summit. Supported by its own TV, radio, and digital laboratories, the department already plays a
visible and growing role in NSU’s public engagement and outreach.
