Dr. Ariful Islam is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biochemistry & Microbiology of North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh (since January 2024). Previously, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan (October 2021 to January 2024). During that time, he worked on drug pharmacokinetics, metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics of human and animal samples applying mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS & LC-MS/MS). He has also worked as a Researcher at Preppers Ltd. Co. (a bio-venture company, https://www.preppers.co.jp/) from January 2020 to March 2023, and as a Research Associate from April 2023 to January 2024.
He obtained PhD degree in Medical Sciences from Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, Hamamtsu, Japan, under the supervision of Professor Mitsutoshi Setou (October 2017 to September 2021). During his PhD, he focused on behavioral, metabolomic, and lipidomic alternations in neurodegenerative diseases, and in the discovery of antiaging molecules from natural sources.
He has completed his bachelor of science (BSc) and mater of scinece (MSc) degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. During his MSc thesis, he worked on the antidiabetic and anti-cancer properties of natural products.
He has published more than 30 research and review articles in reputed journals during his MSc, PhD, and Postdoctoral research works.
