About

Dr. Muhammad is a Professor of Finance at North South University and an adjunct Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) of Finance at La Trobe University. His previous teaching appointments include Monash University, Victoria University, Federation University, Southern Cross University, and East West University. In his earlier academic roles, Dr. Muhammad served as Department Chairman and Associate to the Placement Director for graduate placement. He has contributed extensively to academic governance through membership in several committees, including the Selection, Promotion, and Review Committee and the School Development Committee. At La Trobe Business School, he also served as an executive member of the School Research Committee and the Teaching and Learning Committee, contributing significantly to the School’s research performance, teaching quality, and academic governance. In addition, he has held responsibilities as Program Director, Course Advisor, and Research Coordinator. His teaching scholarship is reflected in his appointment as a judge for the QS Reimagine Education awards in 2024 and 2025. Beyond academia, Dr. Muhammad has industry experience as a finance advisor and finance director in several companies in Bangladesh and Australia.

Dr. Mohammad's research interests are in empirical corporate finance, sustainable finance, capital markets, and macro-finance. His recent work focuses on understanding the implications of finance for climate change and the role of the top management team in various firm outcomes, including sustainability and financial reporting anomalies. His research works appeared in distinguished academic outlets such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, European Accounting Review, British Journal of Management, Finance Research Letters, Global Finance Journal, Energy Economics, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Economic Modeling, and Technology in Society. He has received the Research Excellence Award at La Trobe Business School and several external grants from South Korea and KSA. His research and opinion have been cited/appeared in several news outlets, including Yahoo News, SBS News, Over60Sixty, The Conversation, Interest.co.nz, Flipboard, Newsify, and Old Reader.

Dr. Muhammad received his Bachelor of Finance (Hons) degree from the University of Dhaka with the Dean's Merit Award. He also received two MBAs - in Finance from the University of Dhaka and in Human Resources from Victoria University. He earned his PhD in Finance from La Trobe University. Dr. Muhammad also holds full professional CFA and CPA Australia memberships. He also received a FinTech degree from Monash University with high distinction to expand his research and teaching boundaries in areas related to fintech, AI, machine learning, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies.
