North South University (NSU) hosted its Fall 2026 Sociology Orientation Program on September 24, 2026, at the Syndicate Hall to welcome its first batch of undergraduate students. A total of 24 students have been admitted to the sociology program for Fall 2026.
The event was graced by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, NSU, as the Chief Guest. Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer of NSU as a special guest. 
The program began with a welcome address by Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam,  Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), followed by a short video presentation on the experiences of NSU students who studied Sociology as a GED course at NSU. Dr. Abdul Wohab, the Coordinator of the program.  delivered a presentation on the history and development of sociology at NSU, highlighting the department’s academic journey and the contributions of key individuals to its establishment and growth. Dr. Shafiqul Islam, sociology faculty member, discussed the course curriculum design and degree requirements in detail.
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, NSU, said, “Sociology would help you become a good human being, contribute to the betterment of society, and create a better world.”
In his speech, Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, NSU, said, “We wholeheartedly welcome our students to the sociology program. It will be a new journey for them and for us as well, and we look forward to supporting them at every step of their academic and personal growth.”
Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean, SHSS, expressed his hope that: “The sociology department has a rich pool of faculty members who would train you as the best graduates of the country.” 
Professor Rizwan Khair, Chair of Political Science and Sociology, who chaired the event, said, “You have to be good citizens of this country. To be a good citizen, you have to learn from the people around you, and sociology will help you to do so.” 
The session was moderated by sociology faculty Dr. Ishrat Zakia Sultana.
