The two-day international conference on ‘Transboundary Rivers of South Asia: Fostering Regional Collaboration for Environmental Sustainability’ was successfully held at North South University on 7-8 May 2024. The event, organized by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) in collaboration with the Department of Geography at the University of Manchester, UK, and the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC), Bangladesh, aimed to address critical issues surrounding transboundary river management and environmental sustainability in South Asia.
The ‘International Seminar on GMO Crops: Policy and Practices in Bangladesh’ was held on 28th October 2023 at the Syndicate Hall, North South University, Dhaka. The main objective of this seminar was to review and discuss the policies and practices of GMO crops in Bangladesh, assess current progress in research and production, and identify the major challenges. It marked a significant congregation of experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders in agriculture. It was jointly organized by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) and the NSU-UWA Agribusiness Centre of Excellence (ACE). The keynote speaker for this prestigious event was Sir Richard J. Roberts, a distinguished Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine.
A National Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been organized by the public Policy and Governance (PPG) Program and Center For Policy Dialogue (CPD). Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya , Distinhuished Fellow, CPD Presented Key Note Speech. Designated Discussants of the seminer were Professor M Mahoob Rahman, PhD, Dean School of Business and Economics, NSU, Mr. Monirul Islam, Deputy Chief, General Economic Division (GED) , Planing Comision, GOB; Mr. Asif Ibrahim, Former President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
Public Policy and Governance (PPG) Program, North South University and Planning Division, Ministry of Planning, Government of Bangladesh jointly organized a National Seminar on Accelerating Growth, Empowering Citizens: Perspectives From 7th Five Year Plan. The Seminar graced by the presence of Government policymakers, Academics, Students of NSU. The National Seminar took place on October 29, 2016, at the Syndicate Hall of North South University.
Four paper has been presented by the officials of different capacity from Planning Division including Profesor Shamsul Alam, Ph.D., Member (Sr. Secretary) GED, Planning Commission, Bangladesh.
The School of Business and Economics (SBE), and the Public Policy and Governance (PPG) Program at North South University jointly organized a policy dialogue consisting of a discussion panel of distinguished government policy makers, industrial leaders, and academicians on the topic ‘Promoting Growth: Challenges and Opportunities for Investment Promotion in light of the Industrial Policy of Bangladesh.’ The dialogue took place on February 27, 2016, at the Syndicate Hall of NSU.
The discussion panel included Mr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Secretary to the Ministry of Industries of Bangladesh; Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman, Chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR); Mr. Supun Weerasinghe, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Robi Axiata Ltd.; Mr. Abrar A. Anwar, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bangladesh; Ms. Ferdaus Ara Begum, Chief Executive Officer, Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD); and Prof. M. Mahboob Rahman, Dean of the School of Business and Economics at North South University.
PPG Program, in collaboration with Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Bangladesh, organized a day-long national seminar on Gender Policy in Bangladesh: Strategies, Constraints and Challenges on 05 October, 2013. This seminar aimed to raise questions and issues on gender awareness, review the existing gender policies and sensitize the participants with the current policies and programs of the Government of Bangladesh. The PPG Program has published a proceedings on the seminar held on 2013.
PPG Program organized a Policy Colloquium on ‘Gender and Development’ on Saturday, 29th August 2015 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka. This policy colloquium was supported by HEQEP. Ms. Suraiya Begum, ndc, Secretary to Hon’able Prime Minister was present at the Chief Guest and Mr. M. A. Kashem, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, North South University was as the Special Guest. The event was moderated by Professor Salahuddin M. Aminuzzaman, Adviser of the PPG Program of North South University. The colloquium was well attended by invited guests among whom Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, University Professors, AIG and Superintendent of Bangladesh Police, Assistant Country Director of UNDP and other higher level officials of government and non-government organizations were present.
