North South University Cine and Drama Club(NSUCDC) this time organized their most awaited International Event for the first time named as "NSU-INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL, 2020" which started on 23rd February and continued till 3rd March 2020. Before this NSUCDC used to organize this festival on a national level but this time it breaks all boundaries and take place on international level categories.
The motto of the Festival was - "Explore Yourself Through Films".
The programs of the festival were executed on North South University campus.
This festival structured with a short film competition where the participants were from many international and national level universities/institutes students. There are more than 200 short films submitted from 150 film Institutes and university's film department's students of 20 countries including Russia, America, United Kingdom, Australia, Philippines, Japan, Morocco, Malaysia and more.
It's such an honor to say that the students from renowned Universities among the world such as "New York Film Academy, University of the Arts London, Hong Kong Baptist University, Jadavpur University of Kolkata" participated with their film and were a part of the festival. In National level many public and private universities film department's and film club's students participated in the competition of the festival.
This festival also comprises Film Workshops, Seminars, Film Screenings, Celebrity Talk, etc. and several other segments. Students from different private and public universities joined in these workshops and seminars.
The workshops took place in NSU Auditorium and the instructors were Bangladeshi film maker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, Bangladeshi Cinematographer Rashed Zaman, National award winning editor Sameer Ahmed, Bangladeshi film Director Jahidur Rahim Anjon.
On celebrity adda there were present Arefin Shuvo on behalf of the young artist from Film Industry and Tareq Anam Khan and Fazlur Rahman Babu were present as the witness of the Golden era of the film industry.
On 23rd February the festival was opened with a seminar which title was-
"THE IMPORTANCE OF FILM MOVEMENT & CONTRIBUTION OF UNIVERSITY FILM CLUBS IN DEVELOPMENT OF BANGLADESHI FILMS"
where the key speaker was Film society activist and founder of NSUCDC Professor Abdus Selim, the chief guest was the Vice-Chancellor of North South University Professor Atiqul Islam and special guests were Bangladeshi film director and film movement activist Morshedul Islam, Bangladeshi Author Anupom Hayat, Independent film maker and journalist Shameem Akhter, and Secretary of CHILDREN’S FILM SOCIETY Munira Morshed Munni.
For the Short Film Competition, the Jury Panel were Jahidur Rahim Anjon, Shameem Akhter and Sameer Ahmed.
There are almost 90 plus short films selected for official Film Screening. Star cineplex also the venue partner for film screening along with NSU Auditorium 801.
The award ceremony and closing of the festival took place on 3rd March'20 on North-South University Main Auditorium. The chief guest of the Closing Ceremony of the program was Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and special guests were Bangladeshi theater and film actor Shahiduzzaman Selim and Bangladeshi director, writer and actor Gazi Rakayet.
Globally recognized filmmaker Mostafa Sarwar Farooqi said in his speech : "It is a big deal to do such an international film festival at this time. I thank the North-South University Cine and Drama Club and give us a look at how the festival sheds the film production. Such an arrangement at the university level is really appreciated. " He praised the organizers (NSUCDC) for their wonderful works.
This year in the National category," Total Bangladesh 5 ton" - short film of Golam muntakim, the students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University took the third place, "Distortion"- short film of Raiyan Mahbubul Momen, the students of University of liberal arts Bangladesh took the second place and "Is it good to Run away? "- short film of Fuaduzzaman Fuad, the students of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh got the best film award.
From International Categories, London's College of Communication's Tom Dean's film "Going Home" was awarded on third place, Roopkala Kendro's Sourav Bhadra's movie "BOD JAAT (the out cast)" was awarded on 2nd place and University of the Arts London's Sofia Rovolta's film "Swan Cage" got the Best Film Award. Film organizers believe that the event will encourage the young film makers of Bangladesh and create new possibilities in the film world .
