Professor Gias. U Ahsan led the biggest research on Dengue Vector in Bangladesh titled, “Risk Factors for the Presence of Dengue Vector Mosquitoes and Determinants of Their Prevalence & Larval Site Selection in Dhaka, Bangladesh” in collaboration with University of Manitoba (UM), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, National Microbiology Laboratory, Public Health Agency of Canada, Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B). Prof. Ahsan was the country leader representing Bangladesh and implemented the project in Dhaka over a period of three (3) years, 2011-2013. The research was funded by IDRC Canada.

NSU takes great pleasure in announcing that this research received recognition from the top-ranked international journal, PLOS ONE and got published in June 21, 2018. This is indeed a great representation of North South University in the global arena. Based in the US, Public Library of Sciences (PLOS) publishes the PLOS ONE journal which is the world’s first multidisciplinary Open Access journal, representing scientifically rigorous researches. The journal is well-renowned for its publication qualities and its impact factor incidence.

The significance of this particular research work can’t be emphasized enough. Mosquitoes based diseases are rampant in Dhaka city and identifying risk factors related to the dengue vector mosquitoes will go a long way in implementation of control mechanisms. Such continuous world-class research endeavors & recognitions represent commitment of NSU to maintain position and dominance of North South University, as the top private university in Bangladesh, and as a university of international standards. Congratulations to Prof. Gias U. Ahsan for such a feat!
