Curriculum Vitae

Nusrat Islam is a Lecturer in the Media Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Program at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. With an academic background spanning literature, media, and film studies, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to her teaching and research. She holds a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Literature from the University of Dhaka, as well as a Master’s in Film Studies from the Kinoeyes European Film Masters program, where she studied across institutions in Ireland, Scotland, Estonia, and Portugal.

Her professional experience bridges academia, media research, filmmaking, advertising, and journalism. Before joining NSU, she held teaching positions at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and served as a researcher at FilmEU, where she explored the business and funding landscape of comedy in film and television. Additionally, she has worked as a writer, creative director, and assistant director in the Bangladeshi media industry, contributing to films, television commercials, documentaries, and digital content.

Nusrat’s research interests include media representation, environmental discourse, gender, marginalized communities or minorities, film, the relationship between film and society, and language. She is committed to championing critical media literacy and interdisciplinary inquiry in her students, preparing them to navigate the evolving landscape of media and communication.
