Dr. Mohamed Abdul Baten specializes in environmental policy, resource governance, and neoliberal impacts on marginalized communities. He earned his PhD in Anthropology and Environmental Policy from the University of Maine, USA, where his research focused on the impacts of neoliberalism on foraging communities in the Sundarbans mangrove, examining their livelihoods, market linkage and lived experiences. Dr. Baten holds a Master's degree in Ecosystems, Governance, and Globalization from the Stockholm Resilience Centre, University of Stockholm, Sweden. During his Master's, he analyzed the degradation of Indonesian mangrove commons caused by poorly defined property rights. Professionally, Dr. Baten has served in diverse academic and research roles. He has been a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science and Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) from 2011 to 2024. Additionally, he has held Adjunct Faculty positions at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the University of Maine, USA. His career also includes his role as a Senior Research Associate at Unnayan Onneshan, a progressive policy think tank in Bangladesh.
