Dr. Nehreen Majed is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DCEE) at North South University (NSU). She was previously serving as a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) while she also held Associate Professor and Assistant Professor positions serving for almost 11 years at UAP. Prior to that, she worked as an Assistant Professor at North South University (NSU) in Dhaka during 2012-2013 at the Department of Environment Science and Management while contributing to the launching of DCEE at NSU.
Dr. Nehreen has completed her BSc in Civil Engineering in 2003 and MSc in Environmental Engineering in 2005 from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She worked as a research officer at ITN-BUET until 2005 working in the water supply and sanitation sector in Bangladesh. Then she completed her PhD in 2011 from Northeastern University at Boston, USA specializing in Environmental Engineering. Her fields of expertise encompass water quality assessment and control, water and wastewater treatment, biological nutrient removal and impact assessment.
Dr. Nehreen received multiple in-house research grants at UAP working on Environmental Engineering field including spatial and temporal variation of river water quality, waste loads from outfall discharge, evaluation of industrial effluent treatments plants, Life Cycle Assessment, uptake and bio-accumulation of environmental contaminants, sustainable practices of waste management etc. She authored publications in peer-reviewed journals like Environmental Science and Technology, Current Opinions in Biotechnology, Water Research, Water Science and Technology, Water Environment Research, Frontiers in Environmental Science, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment and also in peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
Dr. Nehreen actively participates in the implementation of the Outcome Based Education (OBE) across the country while serving as a certified evaluator of Board of Accreditation of Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Bangladesh for accreditation of BSc Engineering Programs. She also received project grant from Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) which evaluated the status of OBE implementation in Bangladesh. Dr. Nehreen is a registered scrum master (RSM) by Scrum Inc. (USA) and a research partner at Agile in Education USA. She implements Agile Scrum instructional concepts in Engineering courses which she presented in multiple national and international conferences. As a passionate educator, Dr. Nehreen aims to bring positive and innovative changes in the techniques of Engineering and Science based knowledge dissemination.
