Curriculum Vitae :Dr. Minhaz Mohammad Shahriar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at North South University (NSU), Bangladesh. With over 15 years of academic and research experience in geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, his work centers on sustainable infrastructure solutions, particularly in coastal and flood-prone areas.
He is the founder of NSU’s Geohazard Lab, a specialized research facility equipped with real-time sensors, data loggers, a rainfall simulator, and a custom-built erosion tank—designed to study soil behavior under climate and environmental stressors. The lab supports high-resolution monitoring and simulation to inform embankment design, slope stability, and erosion control strategies.
Dr. Shahriar holds a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, USA where his research focused on numerical and experimental analysis of coastal marsh erosion under hurricane-induced wave and current. He also earned his MS from the same institution with a thesis on vegetation-based slope stabilization, and gained hands-on experience with the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) in Louisiana, contributing to coastal restoration research and monitoring.
Dr. Shahriar is the recipient of the first internationally funded project in his department from the Canadian High Commission and has secured multiple industry-academic collaborative research projects with Nippon Koei Japan. His ability to connect academia with industry and international institutions has led to successful collaborative research projects in Canada and Japan. His collaborative initiatives focus on climate-resilient flood protection, nature-based stabilization techniques, and sustainable infrastructure development.
He is deeply committed to nature-based solutions (NBS) in embankment protection and flood management. His ongoing collaboration with the University of Victoria explores mangrove-based flood defense systems, while his broader research portfolio includes work on carbon footprint reduction, saline water intrusion prevention, and environmentally friendly ground improvement techniques. Dr. Shahriar is also actively engaged in academic dissemination, he contributes regularly to international conferences and journals.
