Curriculum Vitae

Nazrul Islam is an Agricultural and Resource Economist researching on the measurement and analysis of sustainable and efficient agriculture and food production systems. His primary research focus is on the development and application of appropriate analytical models (such as productivity, value-chain, supply-chain, input-output, and computable general equilibrium) to address complex social, economic, and environmental issues and prescribe best solution options for strategic development planning and decision making. He has worked in senior positions in several government, non-government, academic, and international organisations both in Australia and overseas. He has nearly 40 years’ experience in leading, identifying, developing, managing, and coordinating research and development projects. Nazrul has a proven track record of excellent ability to develop and maintain strategic long-term partnerships and to communicate effectively with all levels of relevant (public and private) stakeholders and decision makers.

Nazrul also has a long teaching experience in developing course outlines for teaching and coordinating introductory and advanced economics and business study units. He has supervised several research students (post-graduate and honours), field officers, and junior research economists. He also developed and coordinated business and capacity development training programs for mid- and senior-level managers and executives from government and non-government organisations.

Nazrul was a Panel Member of Australian National Experts for Agricultural Productivity Measurement. He has extensively written and published books, book chapters, research monographs, research papers and reports, policy reports and discussion papers and extension publications. He has also published several scientific papers in high-ranking journals. He has received several highly competitive research grants from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and National Climate Change and Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) and from other R&D and private corporate organisations in Australia, and from the Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF), Ministry of Agriculture in Bangladesh.
