The Center for Peace Studies (CPS) of SIPG at NSU organized a webinar titled 'Israel's atrocity against the Palestinians: Where is the Humanity' on 26 May 2021 at 11 am. The distinguished panelists were Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, NSU, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen, Foreign Secretary, People's Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Yousef S.Y. Ramadan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the State of Palestine in Bangladesh, Ambassador Shahidul Haque, Professorial Fellow, NSU, Zafar Sobhan, Editor, Dhaka Tribune, and Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU. The webinar began with the welcome speech of Dr Bulbul Siddiqi, Director, Confucius Institute and member of CPS. Professor Tawfique M Haque, Director of SIPG and Chair of the Dept. of Political Science and Sociology, was the moderator.
Ambassador Masud Bin Momen said that a ceasefire is not enough for tackling the future violence in Palestine. He emphasized that establishing the State of Palestine based on a two-state solution should be the core of all collective efforts. Ambassador Momen also clarified Bangladesh's position, which is clear and unambiguous since our father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, stood up on international platforms to show Bangladesh's unflinching support for Palestinian rights. Professor Abdur Rob Khan mentioned that although various peace talks like the Camp David Accord and Oslo Peace Process had taken place, the continuous supports of different global powers had intensified the conflict. Professor Khan touched upon the historical perspective of the Israeli atrocity against the Palestinians and the peace process and asked the audience how long the international bodies will let this atrocity continue. Mr Zafar Sobhan expressed that one-sided western media narrative, primarily by the US and UK over the years, cannot suffice this time as the true face of Israeli atrocity has been exposed on social media platforms.
H.E. Yousef S. Y. Ramadan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the State of Palestine in Bangladesh, started his speech raising the question 'where is the humanity?'. Human rights have been neglected in many cases of Israeli atrocity against the Palestinians. Due to the lack of a possible justice, the sufferings of the Palestinians have increased over the period. In addition, the entire process of peace talks in the last three decades did not produce anything for the Palestinians. Ambassador Shahidul Haque said that the United Nations and International Community should take a strong stand in resolving the Crisis'. He elaborated the role of UN, OIC and ICC in trying to bring viable solutions.
Professor Atiqul Islam mentioned in his concluding remarks that the Palestinian issue is an emotional one not just for Muslims but also for any person with justice, equity, freedom for people, and human rights. He believes justice will prevail, even if not soon, but the Palestinians will get their land, freedom, and livelihoods back in the foreseeable future.
