CPS of North South University and Bangladesh Army organized a National Seminar on “Role of Bangladesh in Global Peace”

A National Seminar on “Role of Bangladesh in Global Peace” to observe the International Day of Peace was held on 21 September, 2022 at Sena Malancha, Dhaka Cantonment. It was jointly organized by the Center for Peace Studies (CPS) of South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG), North South University and Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT), Bangladesh Army. 

In the seminar, the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Member of Parliament was present as the chief guest. And the keynote speakers were General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP, OSP, ndu, psc, PhD, Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army and Ambassador Shahidul Haque, Professorial Fellow, SIPG, NSU & and former Senior Secretary and Foreign Secretary of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

 

In the seminar Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP, OSP, NDU, PSC, PhD delivered a speech mentioning the role of Bangladesh Armed Forces in establishing world peace. Besides, Ambassador Shahidul Haque, Professorial Fellow, SIPG, North South University and former Senior Secretary and Foreign Secretary of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, gave a speech about Bangladesh's diplomatic initiatives in establishing world peace.


In his speech at the seminar, the army chief pointed out the outstanding contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to the establishment of world peace and materially highlighted the overall achievements of the peacekeepers. Along with this achievement, he shed light on what should be done for Bangladeshi peacekeepers to play a more active role in establishing world peace. The other speaker of the seminar gave a speech referring to the current diplomatic initiatives of Bangladesh and the general issues of Bangladesh's current position in establishing world peace. Both the speakers also proposed future action plans, noting the hindrances of Bangladeshi peacekeepers and diplomatic initiatives of Bangladesh in establishing world peace.


In his speech, the chief guest paid tribute to the greatest Bengali father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and shed light on the foreign policy of the father of the nation. He said, the vision of the father of the nation towards mankind is the basic foundation of our constitution. We will all work hard to keep this foundation alive. He expressed hope that Bangladeshi peacekeepers and partners at all levels will continue their concerted efforts to establish world peace by upholding this vision of the father of the nation and the constitution of Bangladesh.


The speakers participating in the event, the visiting guests and the question and answer session of the students of various universities made today's seminar lively. At this time, great interest was observed among all. Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, North South University in his speech highlighted that Bangladesh is playing a leading role in maintaining peace inside and outside the country. The main theme of the International Day of Peace this year is ‘End Racism, Build Peace’. Keeping this idea in mind, Bangladesh's active and glorious role in establishing world peace must be highlighted to the new generation, as well as preparing a universal support field for Bangladesh's partners at all levels to face the future challenges in establishing world peace. Members of parliament, military advisors and defense attachés of various countries assigned to Bangladesh, vice chancellors of reputed universities of Bangladesh, senior officers invited from armed forces, Bangladesh police and various ministries, ex-army chiefs, various international organizations based in Bangladesh, UN and UN resident representatives, eminent educational personalities, media personalities and students of reputed universities of Bangladesh were present.
