The Center for Peace Studies (CPS) of the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG), North South University (NSU) celebrated its 2nd Anniversary on February 28, 2022.
The first part of the Anniversary Celebration was held in person at Syndicate Hall, NSU. Professor M. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, North South University graced the event as the Chief Guest. A peace talk on “Reclaiming Peace in the Current World Order” was delivered virtually by Dr. Kevin Barrett in the second half of the program. Dr. Kevin is an American Scholar and a renowned critic of the ‘War on Terror’.
The Center for Peace Studies (CPS) was founded in 2020 with the aim to facilitate the academic study of peace building and the promotion of a resilient society through evidence-based and empirical research under SIPG of NSU. CPS is a platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners from various academic backgrounds to collaborate in order to create a peaceful world, with a focus on long-term and inclusive solutions to contemporary humanitarian crises.
The anniversary celebration started with an inaugural speech by Dr. Abdul Wohab, Coordinator of CPS and Assistant Professor, Dept. of PSS, NSU. It was followed by the award-giving ceremony of the SIPG-CPS Photography Contest 2022. Three best photographs in the category of peace, education and climate action were selected for the award. Among the judges, Sam Jahan, an award-winning journalist of Agence France-Presse (AFP) was present at the program. Professor Sk Tawfique M. Haque, Director of SIPG & CPS and Chairman of the Dept. of PSS, NSU presided over this event as the chair. The celebration ended with a peace song performed by the NSU students and cake cutting. Academics, researchers, staff, journalists, and NSU students were present at the anniversary celebration.
