Dr. Saima Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at North South University. She holds a PhD in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and brings over eight years of expertise in program evaluation, development economics, and applied microeconomics. After completing her PhD, Dr. Khan worked for 4.5 years as a Postdoctoral Associate at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).
From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Khan served as an Education Economist (Consultant) with the Asian Development Bank, where she contributed to identifying critical areas for educational improvement, analyzing labor market outcomes, and enhancing data quality for more accurate policy-making. In 2022, she collaborated with The Center for Peace and Justice of BRAC University to develop the Peace Index for the Cox's Bazar region, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, which examines the dynamics between the Bangladeshi host community and the Rohingya population.
Thus far, her research has focused on evaluating educational interventions and schooling behavior in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, using high-quality data she collected herself. Dr. Khan led two large-scale household surveys in Bangladeshi slums, demonstrating her skills in project management, survey design, and questionnaire development.
Dr. Khan has presented her research at prestigious international conferences, including the China Meeting of the Econometric Society, the Asian and Australasian Society of Labour Economics (AASLE), and the North American Summer Meeting of the Econometric Society. Her fields of research include education economics, labour economics, development economics, and behavioural economics.
