North South University (NSU), the first, largest and best internationally recognized private university of Bangladesh is seeking to recruit a Dean for its School of Business and Economics (SBE). The university is located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The position is for a period of 2 years and renewable based on performance. The Dean will also have a substantive continuing professorial position in one of the four departments of the School.

The School of Business and Economics is the largest school at NSU with over 11,000 students and 450 full-time and part-time faculty. The School is committed to delivering top quality teaching and to producing high quality research, consulting and engagement with stakeholders. The SBE is ACBSP accredited and working towards AACSB accreditation.

The Dean is responsible for developing operational and strategic plans for the School, building a leadership team, and providing inspiring and effective leadership. As the chief administrative officer of the School, he/she is also responsible for achieving the operational and strategic objectives of the School, recruitment and selection of faculty, building and fostering cooperative relationships with government, industry, professions and the community at large.

Position Responsibilities:

• Develop and articulate a compelling vision for the SBE consistent with NSU vision and mission.
• Develop high quality student-centered curriculum in all disciplines in the School and promote research activities.
• Inspire and assure an academic climate that will promote excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.  Promote team spirit, collegiality and mutual respect among faculty.
• Promote a culture of engagement, inclusion, and innovation for students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders.
• Evaluate faculty performance with a view to promote professional development.
• Build a leadership team in the School to realize its strategic objectives.
• Develop and strengthen cooperative arrangements with other institutions in Bangladesh and beyond for mutual benefit.
• Play an active role in promoting university planning, policy-making, and provide executive leadership individually and through participation in committee work.
• Anticipate developments in educational philosophy, as well as technology and innovation for the SBE.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

Essential:

• An earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree from an internationally accredited high quality institution in a discipline related to business or economics.
• Experience as Dean, Deputy Dean, Head of Department or equivalent positions at a university.
• Demonstrated record of academic/professional accomplishments and a record of impressive scholarly work and publications.
• Demonstrated effectiveness as a supervisor, mentor and career guide for faculty and staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written & verbal).
• Evidence of accomplished academic leadership with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve good outcomes from engagement with government, industry and professions.
• A demonstrated commitment to cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity.

Desirable:

• Working experience in an AACSB accredited institution.
• Demonstrated experience with innovative academic programs, pedagogical approaches, and/or modes of delivery.
• Evidence of securing external grants and successful supervision of higher degree by research.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing quality improvement and/or experience with organizational development.
• Membership and high-level involvement with a relevant professional organization.

Salary: An attractive salary package will be negotiated.
